POLICIES & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ATTENDANCE
Attendance at all concerts is required by all members. There are no "excused" absences from concerts! Dress rehearsals are also mandatory. It is not fair to the group to attend rehearsals and then miss concerts - the ensemble depends on stand partners that are familiar with each other and the group working together as a whole.

1) If a student misses more than one rehearsal, he or she will not be allowed to perform in the next EYO concert.

2) If a student misses any performance, he or she will not be allowed to perform in any EYO concerts for the remainder of the academic year.

Unless notified to the contrary by your conductor, rehearsals are scheduled for every Monday evening during the concert season, regardless of school schedules, teacher workdays or other events.

MEMBERSHIP IN SCHOOL ENSEMBLES
If a student is a member of a scholl ensemble, he or she must remain with that ensemble. EYO should not be used as a substitute or replacement for any student's school music program.

HOW MUCH IS TUITION?
Tuition is $275 for first child, $225 for 2nd child, and $175 for each additional child in a family. The payment due date will be posted at the end of the summer.

Chamber music is $225 per child.

If the annual tuition is not paid in full OR an alternative arrangement is not negotiated in writing before the second fall rehearsal, your child will not be permitted to participate in rehearsals or concerts for the remainder of the year.

If you have a significant financial need, there may be assistance (in the form of a scholarship) available to help reduce tuition. Please contact the Board President, Michael Lang (langmi [at] ecu.edu) with inquiries about financial need.

For other questions about payment methods, deadlines, etc., please contact our treasurer, Ms. Ihuoma Ugoji.

Tuition may be paid online via this secure PayPal link or by mail to the address below:

REMINDER: If tuition is not submitted by the 2nd rehearsal, the student(s) will not be allowed to comtinue in EYO. This policy will be strictly enforced.

CONCERT DRESS CODE
Adhering to concert dress is expected behavior for orchestral musicians in order to obtain a uniform appearance as a group. This will allow the audience to concentrate on the music and not to be distracted by an individual’s appearance. The following dress code is standard for most orchestras and is required for participation in EYO concerts:

Prelude, Sinfonia & Philharmonic Boys: Solid white dress shirt, solid black long pants, solid black socks, solid black (or dark) dress shoes (no tennis shoes)

Prelude & Sinfonia Girls: Solid white top, black dress pants or long black skirt below the knee (not above the knee), solid black hose or tights, solid black dress shoes (no tennis shoes).

Philharmonic Girls: See Prelude & Sinfonia girls above. In addition, solid black top or a long, solid black dress is also acceptable.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • No bare legs: if you wear a long skirt, then you must also wear black hose or tights
  • No spaghetti straps or sleeveless tops No visible midriffs, shoulders, cleavage, or backs
  • No sequins or glitter No denim
  • No white socks

If you are dressed inappropriately your parents will be called to bring you appropriate concert dress clothes.

WHEN AND WHERE DO THE ORCHESTRAS MEET?
The orchestras typically meet for rehearsals on Monday evenings in the fall and then again in the spring. Rehearsals are held in the Fletcher Music Center on the ECU campus.
